3 days and counting

Hi Gang,
Only a few days left before the challenge, I've been getting cold feet. I'm so glad that there is another 8 other girls going through this with me - which is keeping me comitted. I've forgotten why I thought this was a good idea... I'm in the process of weaning off caffine, the headache yesterday is probably from the overdosing of all things I will miss... I do plan to cut back over the weekend so I'm not miserable on Monday, but I think I'll go for a nice Beef Tenderloin & creamy risotto tonight, red wine and dessert -I've been dreaming of this as if it's my last meal! I need to get focused, plan my meals, and head to Whole foods for my next lesson in food. In the mean time here are some questionable items -wondering if they are allowed....What do you guys think?
Hummas (store brand)
Corn Tortillas
Wasabi
Vinegar
Mustard
Cornstarch
Cornmeal or Polenta
Mirin
Capers
Salsa
Tomato paste
Tomato Juice
Canned Tuna
Keifir
Kasha (is this Buckwheat)
Sparkling Water
Panko
Rye
Spelt
Kamut
Bran
Oat Bran

There are some great recipes in the studio for those of you who need ideas. Please feel free to post any great ideas you have. I've got a few meals in mind for myself, but I'm going to have to do some thinking...

  1. I went to Costco yesteday and bought 2 books, Tosca Reno's Eat Clean cookbook, Crock-pot Best Loved Slow Cooker Recipes, oh and Debt-Free Forever (but thats for a different kind of cleanse).... and a bag of organic quinoa. Have gotten back on my recumbent cycle and into my infared sauna for 4 days now and already feel better. You seem to need to expend energy to get energy. Am eating the leftover sweets and roasted salted nuts that are hanging around since Xmas. Have told my friends about the cleanse so they won't bug me about being off wine. When I did a 90 day detox over xmas 2008 my friends were having a really hard time being supportive. I think this was more about them than me. I am pumped for Monday!! 2. “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change we seek.” (Barack Obama)

    Hi Ladies!
I love this quote because it reminds me that while I can always find reasons not to stick with the plan, ultimately I need to take responsibility for my health and the way I feel.
This detox will challenge us all in different ways, but the really wonderful thing is that we have each other (and Gina's blog!) to support us as we go through it. I'm looking at February as a month-long journey to a more energetic and revitalized me!

For the foods that Gina listed above, here are the ones that are allowable for this month:
    - cornmeal (can also use quinoa, millet, amaranth, basmati rice, brown rice)
    - corn starch
    - Buckwheat (kasha)
    - tomato paste (no tomato juice since it's too high in sodium)
    - canned tuna
    - sparkling water (ensure you are getting in 50% of your body weight in ounces in regular water before you go for sparkling water)
    - store bought hummus is on the line since it often has vinegar in it. I recommend using Fontaine Sante hummus since vinegar is one of the last ingredients which means there is very little of it in the hummus.
    - all other vinegars are out. If you are looking for dressing options for salad I use extra virgin olive oil or flaxseed oil with lemon, lime, or orange, and different herbs. This will give you a clean tasting dressing that is fresh and yummy!

I will be at SV by 5:45pm on Monday to begin doing BIA's. Afterwards, I'll explain to the group what the results mean and we can answer any questions that come up.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!

    Kirsten

  3. HI everyone, I am excited and nervous too!! I have also told friends to stay off my back about no wine and treats, I am pretty sure they will all be supportive. I had a crazy headache earlier this week I hope that wil be it. Does anyone have the slow cooker recipe for an oatmeal like meal we can eat. I heard Tosca Reno had a great one in one of her cookbooks??? I am so excited to feel like me again. xoxox Suzanne

  4. I'm also getting really excited! I took a closer look at my February calendar and I am going to have quite a few tempting moments through the course of the month, but am hoping I'm strong enough to stay on track! I had a blast shopping for my detox ingredients at Whole Foods on Saturday. I'm one of those rare animals who enjoys grocery shopping. :)

I'm looking forward to tonight, can't wait to hear everyone's ideas and recipes!
